You'll stand in awe as you gaze at Plymouth Rock and tour Mayflower II, the full-size replica of the ship that brought the Pilgrims to Plymouth in 1620.Everything around you is rich in history. Be sure to visit Plimoth Plantation, a living history museum where costumed interpreters in the 1627 Pilgrim Village speak in 17th-century dialects, Hobbamocks Wampanoag Indian Homesite give you a true sense of the native culture and history of the Indians who allied with the Pilgrims, craftspeople reproduce 17th-century "artifacts" before your eyes and the Rare-breed program is highlighted in the Nye Barn. For more of the Pilgrim story, you can trace your own Pilgrim roots at the Mayflower Society Museum. Pilgrim Hall Museum is the oldest public museum in America and home to the largest collection of Pilgrim possessions. The Plymouth National Wax Museum brings the period to life in light, sound and animation. But there's more than Pilgrims to keep you occupied. There are six historic homes to tour; narrated Trolley Tours; Colonial Lantern Tours for other history and haunted happenings; true ghost stories at Coffin's Ghost Theater; Capt. John Boats for amphibious tours, harbor cruises, deep sea fishing and whale watching. There are wonderful parades on the 4th of July and the Saturday before Thanksgiving, as well as fireworks, concerts and more! |
